Join National Heritage Academies (NHA) as a SQL database administrator. This position will report directly to the manager of IT data services and will be the primary resource for database administration and maintenance of NHA's database platform.

Your Role

  • Manage SQL Server database servers through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems
  • Install, configure, maintain and upgrade database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, backups, security, etc
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekend (rare)
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours
  • Monitor SQL Server Alerts, configuration via monitoring tools such as Solarwinds DPA (Database Performance Analyzer), Red Gate SQL Monitor, etc.., and act in consultation with the team
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions using Powershell and contribute to process documentation



  • BS degree in Computer Science or related fields, or equivalent years of relevant work experience required
  • Minimum 5 years of SQL server database administration experience including troubleshooting and performance tuning required
  • Minimum 3 years in a production support role required 
  • Extensive understanding of administering a Microsoft SQL Server is required
  • Good understanding of Transact-SQL (T-SQL) is required
  • Experience with AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Powershell is required
  • Basic SSRS/SSIS/SSAS administration knowledge is required 
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as a flexible and "get-it-done" personality
  • Must be available for off-hour and on-call work in the event of outages, problems and off-hour required changes
  • Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to organize and plan work independently
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
